A Personal Note from Pastor's Pen - An Eclipse

Is the solar eclipse happening tomorrow a sign of the end times? There are numerous passages in the bible that link end-time events with signs in the sky. The sun, the moon, the stars, meteors, and eclipses are mentioned in connection with end-time Bible prophecies.

For example, when asked about the timing of the end times, Jesus says in Luke 21:25 There shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars... It's natural then to believe that whenever strange or rare astronomical phenomena occur, many wonder if the end times are approaching. Many point to Matthew 24:29 as connections specifically to eclipses and blood moons that announce the last days. During a solar eclipse, the sun is significantly darkened and the light normally reflected by the moon is gone. So yes, there does seem to be a possible connection between an eclipse and the end time.

However, with that being said, there is no way to connect a specific eclipse with the fulfillment of end-time prophecy. There have been many trying to link the paths and the patterns of this eclipse, however eclipses are actually quite common. A total solar eclipse occurring somewhere on Earth approximately once every 18 months. Partial solar eclipses occur several times every year. Since the time that Jesus spoke the words in Matthew 24, there have been thousands of solar eclipses, each pointing the faithfulness of God and His sure return. But, there is no way to know that a particular eclipse will have a connection to the last days and the rapture of the church. Honestly, they all do. As we look up to the sky tomorrow to see the handiwork of God, may each of us look past the sun to see the Son. And then may we look back at our own lives. Il Peter 3: 11-12 Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness, Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat? May we all be watching for His return!
