A Personal Note from Pastor's Pen - Wait on the Lord

In the Psalms, Proverbs, and throughout the entire Bible, we find the command and wisdom to wait on the Lord. Psalm 27 says Wait on the LORD: Be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: Wait, I say, on the LORD. But what does this mean? Is this a passive setting around, or something more, something different? Waiting on the Lord is a command of patience. This is to have confident trust in the Lord that He is working, even when it doesn't seem He is. Psalm 27 is actually a prayer to God for help. Yet, in its words it illustrates the meaning of waiting on the Lord. Throughout the psalm's verse, David expresses genuine faith and trust in God based on his expectation that the Lord will rescue him in his time of trouble. I believe the first thing David reveals to us about how to wait on the Lord is by simply trusting in Him. Vs1-2 expresses great confidence in the Lord, who was his light, his salvation, and his stronghold. This kind of trust helps to fight the anxieties and fears we all have. Then in vs4, David shows us that part of waiting on the Lord is by seeking Him. David longs to be with Him, to commune in God's presence, and to worship in His house. The house of God was longed for because it helped David feel safe and secure, vs5-6. Also, waiting on the Lord has to do with taking time with God in prayer. In verses 7-14, David asked God for wisdom, direction, and protection. In doing so, he showed great confidence in who God is and what He is capable of doing. Those who wait on the Lord do not lose heart in their prayers. In doing these simple things, waiting on the Lord renews our strength, Isaiah 40.31, as well as it brings God's blessings, Isaiah 64:4. Sometimes we might feel as though the Lord doesn't see or hear us; that He's not answering our prayers. During these moments, we can put our complete faith and trust in the living God. We can wait on the Lord in eager anticipation, Knowing that He is with us and in control of our lives. That, we can be sure of!
